About Dan & GCI

The letters GCI formed in glowing blue glass on a dark reflective floor

One person who understands the whole project.

GCI is founder-led. Dan McConaughy founded the studio, and you work directly with him: the person responsible for understanding your goal, designing the experience, and building the solution.

Scope, decisions, and feedback stay in the same conversation from the first brief through delivery. You know who to ask and who is responsible.

Operating model

01

A clear scope

Agree on the goal, what is included, the cost, and the responsibilities before building.

02

Work you can review

Review a working version as the project develops. Feedback has a clear place in the process.

03

Decisions explained

Understand the tools, access requirements, tradeoffs, and ongoing responsibilities that come with the solution.

04

A considered next step

Review how the first release performs before deciding what is worth improving or adding.

What independence changes

The right tools for the work.

The approach depends on your audience, existing tools, and the outcome you need. That may mean a clearer website, custom software, a connected workflow, or a simpler process. AI is included when it has a useful role.

Where the work happens

Toledo, Northwest Ohio, and wherever the project is.

The studio is in Toledo, Ohio. Most of its work is for businesses in Toledo and Northwest Ohio, where a first meeting can happen across a table; the rest is remote, which suits websites and software well because design reviews and working versions are shared online either way. There is no office to visit unannounced: write or call first, and a conversation follows within a working day or two.

The work is small by choice. One person designs and builds each project, and takes on only as many as that allows. What that person has built so far is public: the PC NET TECHS Project, a website that grew into a connected digital operation with its own analytics, content system and workspace; the studio's own site and the working prototypes on it (Our Work); and the articles, which describe methods used on those projects, with the numbers measured rather than estimated.

The studio publishes no testimonials it cannot attribute and claims no certifications. What it does publish is the work itself, labelled as client project or studio concept, so you can judge it directly.
